Beach House Transformation

“Could you pull off a beach house transformation for us? We want you to redecorate our new beach house- no demo right now, just great design.” This was the request I received from a lovely new client during the last week of April. She and her family had never been to the area and only saw photos of the home before buying. They wanted an “upscale” beach feel for their family and soon to be renters.

The next part of the ask was a little more challenging- “We are closing on May 31st and the home is rented out through June 4. We’d like most of the work done before we arrive on June 11.” Thus began some seriously detailed planning to try to make this happen! Because of the time frame and continuing supply chain issues, I did most of the shopping locally for in stock items. I did source some things online that had definite ship dates. The people I worked with locally were amazing and I could not be more grateful for their help. Family Room

Let’s start by checking out the family room transformation! The homeowners kept a few items but mostly we were starting from scratch. They wanted a soft, light and bright coastal palette consisting of neutrals with varying shades of blue accents.

I began the design by rearranging the floor plan. I moved the television to the back wall and placed it over one of our statement pieces, the entertainment console. Then I placed two new sofas facing each other and anchored that space with an area rug and coffee table. The bay window was the ideal spot for a pair of comfy swivel chairs- perfect for reading, watching television, or enjoying the view of the gulf. When designing with a neutral palette, it is especially important to include elements with varying textures. The unique wood coffee table and the carved detail on the console create beautiful points of interest. Other textural pieces in this space are the woven area rug, the fringed pillows, and the gorgeous metallic lamps.

It is amazing the difference that new chairs and a fabulous light fixture make in the dining area! We kept the existing dining table and opted for woven chairs with gray cushions. The chandelier is a “wow” moment! I selected Sherwin Williams “Eider White” as the color for the main living area. It is a warm off-white paint color with gray undertones.

The bedding was the inspiration for this room! I love that it has a coastal feel without being overly “beach themed.” The pretty shade of blue on the walls brings it all together. I think it is preferable to choose bedding first and then select paint colors. It is much harder to find bedding to match paint than the other way around. The wall color is Sherwin Williams “North Star.” Placing both beds on the same wall opened up the space. The pillows were a great find at Target!

The deep blue accent wall of the guest room highlights the pretty white furniture and lamps. Blue and white are a classic design pairing that always looks great! This is a small space but it feels like a welcome retreat after a long day at the beach. I brought in the nightstands from another room and gave them a fresh coat of paint. The fans throughout the home were changed from dark brown to white so that they blend in with the ceiling.

The homeowners were planning a full bathroom remodel in a few months. They couldn’t believe the difference in the before and after! A new shower curtain, light, mirror, faucet, and wall color have really changed this space. Working with the existing floor tile and vanity, I chose Sherwin Williams “Incredible White” for the walls. The panel platform bed features storage drawers and built in USB ports so you can easily charge your devices while you sleep. The wood side tables and the seagrass rug warm up the room while working with the tones of the blue gray bedding from Pottery Barn. The mercury glass lamps add a bit of sparkle on either side of the bed. We tucked a gray swivel chair into one of the corners and added a woven side table and lamp to create a private spot for reading.

In the kitchen we made a few simple changes. The light fixture over the sink was replaced and we brought in new bar stools. The barstools have an interesting woven rope detail on the back and sides and the cushions are stain resistant for durability. The neutral paint color unifies the space and allows the elements such as the countertops to shine.

Thanks for joining me on this tour of my latest project! I so enjoyed working on this beach house transformation and hope the homeowners and their guests make many happy memories here for years to come.
