Fresh Looks for Spring

Design Tips

March 4, 2021

back to blog

I can’t believe it’s already March! Just over the last few days it seems like spring has arrived. The birds are singing and flowers are beginning to bloom. I know March can be fickle and we are likely to get a few more blasts of colder weather but I am sensing the end of winter is near and that makes me happy! The days are getting longer and I am here for the sun and warmth and light!

Add a Splash of Green

When the seasons change, I always like to incorporate some fresh elements into my decor. In the spring time my thoughts usually turn to the color green as it evokes feelings of life, energy, and hope. Today, I want to share a family room concept with you and walk you through some ideas for incorporating elements of spring into your decor.

Create a Color Palette

I began designing this room by creating the color palette. The primary inspiration was the popular Sherwin Williams color Sea Salt, which is the lighter green in the palette. This pretty green gray color brings brightness into a space without being intense. In some rooms it can show off undertones of blue. I paired this with the neutral tones of Agreeable Gray which is a soft greige (mix of gray and beige). For accent colors I brought in more shades of green with Coastal Plain and Billiard Green.

Bring in a Rug with Light Tones

A rug that has a lighter background will instantly freshen up your space. The rug shown below has a subtle pattern and neutral color palette that would work in most any room.

Bring in the Botanicals

In the concept board, I have included botanical touches in the artwork, the fun wallpaper, and even the light fixture has the look of bamboo. Look around your house for containers that you can fill with fresh greenery. Plants make a space come alive and increase your sense of well being.

Add Textural Elements with Natural Materials

Incorporate textural elements to add an organic feel inspired by nature. In the room I designed, the materials used in the end table, lamp, and coffee table have lots of dimension.

Spring for Some New Pillows

Changing out pillows is one of the easiest seasonal updates. No need to spend a fortune on these. Some of my favorite places to find fun pillows are Target, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Etsy. All the pillows seen below can be found at Target online.
